Advancing inclusive AI education and workforce development across Asia-Pacific

Robo Co-op is pleased to be recognized as a Contributing Organization in AI for All: Building an AI-Ready Workforce in Asia-Pacific, an international research report published on 5 May 2025 by AVPN, Asia's leading network of social investors.

The report explores the state of AI workforce development across the Asia-Pacific region, identifying barriers to AI education and opportunities to build a more inclusive, AI-ready workforce.

Recognized alongside other contributing organizations, Robo Co-op shares the report's vision of a future where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to develop AI skills and benefit from technological progress.

◆The AI Skills Gap: Why Access to Training Matters

        • Artificial intelligence is transforming industries and reshaping the way people live and work. Yet access to the skills needed to participate in this transformation remains uneven.

Drawing on a survey of 2,840 respondents across eight countries and territories in Asia-Pacific, the report highlights significant gaps in AI awareness, education, and workforce readiness.

          Three findings stand out:

          • ▫57% of respondents were unaware of available AI training programmes.
          • ▫Only 15% had previously received AI training.
          • ▫Approximately 40% preferred practical AI training relevant to their work and daily lives over advanced technical instruction.

These findings point to a critical challenge: expanding AI education is not simply about offering more courses. It is about ensuring that people know these opportunities exist, can access them, and can apply what they learn in meaningful ways.

The report also highlights disparities in AI education and technology adoption linked to factors such as age, digital literacy, and language.

Addressing these barriers will be essential to building a workforce in which everyone has a fair opportunity to participate in an increasingly AI-driven economy.

◆Building an Inclusive Future Through an “AI Just Transition”

          • A central theme of the report is the importance of an AI Just Transition — an approach that seeks to ensure the benefits of AI are shared across society, rather than concentrated among those who already have access to technology, education, and economic opportunities.

Making this vision a reality requires more than technological advancement.

It calls for accessible learning programmes, practical skills development, continued support for learners, and collaboration between businesses, educational institutions, governments, and nonprofit organizations.

Equally important is recognizing that people begin their AI learning journeys from different starting points.

For individuals with limited digital experience or restricted access to educational resources, training must be approachable, relevant, and connected to real-world needs.

By putting people at the center of AI education, organizations can help ensure that technological progress creates opportunities rather than widening existing inequalities.

◆Robo Co-op’s Commitment to AI Education and Inclusion

            • At Robo Co-op, we believe that access to AI education and digital opportunities should not be limited by a person's background, experience, or circumstances.

Our mission is to create pathways for people from diverse backgrounds to develop new skills, participate in the digital economy, and access meaningful employment opportunities.

Through online learning, hands-on digital skills development, and initiatives that connect education with employment, we work to make emerging technologies more accessible and relevant to everyday life.

Robo Co-op also serves as a Strategic Partner in Japan for AVPN’s AI Opportunity Fund: Asia-Pacific, an initiative supported by Google.org that aims to expand access to AI learning opportunities throughout the region.

This work closely aligns with the findings of AI for All, particularly its emphasis on removing barriers to AI education, strengthening practical workforce skills, and ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind.

Our recognition as a contributing organization reflects our engagement with the broader effort to build a more inclusive AI future.

◆Moving Forward: AI Opportunities for Everyone

              • AI has the potential to create new opportunities for learning, employment, and economic participation. Realizing that potential, however, depends on making AI education accessible to everyone.

At Robo Co-op, we will continue working with partners across sectors to help bridge the gap between technological innovation and real-world opportunity.

By expanding access to practical AI skills and supporting inclusive workforce development, we aim to contribute to a future where more people can confidently learn, use, and benefit from AI.

Because the future of AI should be shaped by everyone — and its opportunities should be open to all.
